Campaign for the victims of the heavy rains in Rio de Janeiro

UNICEF launches donation campaign for the victims of the heavy rains in Rio de Janeiro. Donations can be made through the UNICEF bank account.

Brasilia, April 16 - The United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF), in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is today launching a donation campaign for the families who are suffering the consequences of landslides and floods triggered by heavy rains in Rio de Janeiro. Those interested in donating money can make deposits in the UNICEF bank account at Banco do Brasil:

The funds will be earmarked for the emergencies within communities in Rio de Janeiro and Niteroi, seeking to support governments and civil society to ensure access to food, drugs and hygienic conditions, protection against any type of abuse or violence, learning materials and toys, and promote the continuity of family life.

Actions will be carried out through partnership with the Center for Health Promotion (Cedaps) and Bem TV, UNICEF partners from the Platform for Urban Centers. The two organizations have worked for many years in local communities of both municipalities and maintain regular contact with the local population, which will ensure effective usage of funds raised. Those who wish to obtain a receipt of donation should send the following information to : full name, address, CPF, amount and date of donation.

With the development and implementation of the actions of the Platform for Urban Centers, UNICEF reaffirms its determination to work for and defend the rights of children and adolescents, especially those living in poor communities.
