VISAS FOR NON-MALAYSIANS AND CASES OF EXEMPTION

TOURIST VISA

Foreign citizens must have a "Tourist Visa", valid for 90 days, to travel to Brazil as tourists, participants in conferences, seminars, sports or artistic events (provided that no payment is involved in these activities).

On arrival, the Brazilian immigration authorities may require a return ticket and/or proof of financial capacity for the length of the traveler's stay.

Note: to be an exhibitor in a trade fair, a business visa is required (see next section). The purpose of this requirement is to facilitate customs clearance of goods and samples taken to Brazil.

When travelling to Brazil on TOURISM, citizens of the following countries are exempted from a visa up to 90 days per year:
Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malaysia, Monaco, Morocco, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, the Sovereign Order of Malta (citizens of Malta must have a visa), Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, the Vatican and Venezuela.*

Tourist visa requirements:

  • Passport valid for at least six months, with at least two blank pages available for the visa and immigration stamps.

  • One visa application receipt, signed by the applicant. This receipt [Recibo de Entrega de Requerimento - RER] will be issued after the applicant fills out the form online. Form must be filled out at https://scedv.serpro.gov.br

  • One recent passport size photograph attached to the receipt.

  • Travel Itinerary (round trip booking). Note: We strongly recommend you not to purchase your travel ticket before having your application approved.

  • Proof of means of support during the applicant's stay in Brazil. Recent bank or credit card statements (last 3 months), are accepted as proof. Please bring the originals of these documents.

  • Letter from school, College, university or work (original)

  • Hotel booking. Note: If you are visiting family members or friends in Brazil, provide letter of invitation and contact information.

  • For participation in conference, seminar or congress an invitation or enrollment letter must be submitted.

The consular section may request additional information or documentation as deemed necessary.

Tourist Visa fees vary and are to be paid only after submission of the documents.





BUSINESS VISA

Foreign citizens travelling to do business in Brazil are generally required to have a business visa (see exemptions below.

Business visas are required for foreigners visiting Brazil with the following purposes:

  • Conducting business, establishing and/or strengthening business contacts or attending to business-related meetings. Note: Business visa holders are not allowed to work or study in Brazil.
  • Covering journalistic or sporting events as a newsperson, reporter or journalist assigned by a communication/media company on a short term basis (RN78/2008/CNIg)
  • Cinematographic filming and film making as members of a film crew. In this case, visas will depend on prior specific authorization from the Brazilian National Cinema Agency (ANCINE).

Exemptions:

Nationals of the following countries are exempted from a business visa up to 90 days :

Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Monaco, Morocco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Slovenia, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, the Sovereign Order of Malta (citizens of Malta must have a visa), Spain, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Trinidad & Tobago, Tunisia, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay, the Vatican and Venezuela* (*60 days).


Business visa requirements:

  • Passport valid for at least six months, with at least two blank pages available for the visa and immigration stamps.

  • One visa application receipt, signed by the applicant (this receipt will be issued after the applicant fills in the forms).

  • One recent passport size photograph attached to the receipt.

  • Payment of consular fees. Due to reciprocity of treatment, consular fees may vary according to the applicant's nationality.

    Please note that the payment is not refundable if the visa is denied. Therefore, kindly submit your application to the Consular Section before paying the visa fee.


  • A letter on your company's letterhead, signed by management, informing your position, the purpose of your trip, who will pay for your expenses and how long you intend to stay in Brazil. In order to avoid processing delays, please provide as much information as you can on the activities that you intend to perform in Brazil. If self-employed, a bank statement (latest 3 months) displaying enough funds, in the Embassy's judgment, to finance the stay in Brazil.

  • An invitation letter from Brazil confirming the nature of the meeting(s) and including all Brazilian contacts (names, phones, emails etc). It must be written in Portuguese as it will be addressed to the Embassy of Brazil in Kuala Lumpur. A translation may be provided by the Brazilian company to the visa applicant. However, the Embassy requires only the one in Portuguese.

  • In case of application through an agent, a proof that the applicant resides within the jurisdiction of the Embassy.

  • We strongly recommend you not to purchase your travel ticket to Brazil before having your application approved. We ask, however, to present us a letter detailing the planned trip and the dates of travel (itinerary).

  • Visa Officer may ask for additional documents whenever deemed necessary.
